TM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TMR&D) and FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies (FiberHome) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), at Cyberview Lodge in Cyberajaya on Nov 7th, to pave the way for more joint research and development (R&D) collaborations on advanced optical and wireless communication technologies, and the collaboration activities will be taken by cooperative research, consultancy, training, industrial attachment and others.
Giorgio Migliarina, Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, TM and Dr. Gopi Kurup, Chief Executive Officer, TMR&D signed the agreement on behalf of TMR&D, while FiberHome was represented by Yang Zhuang, its Chief Technology Officer & Vice President and Zhou Xikang, GM of R&D Department.
Present to witness the signing were Dato’ Danapalan TP Vinggrasalam, Chairman of TMR&D, and He Shuping, President of FiberHome.
The joint R&D collaboration, leveraging on the key strengths of both organizations, is hoped to lead to the advancements in the area of broadband systems, and to enable the creation of more cost effective and energy efficient complementary solutions for the provision of next generation high speed broadband connectivity in Malaysia. As experts in the Optical Telecommunication technology, both TMR&D and FiberHome will contribute their expertise and experience in the fields towards telecommunication frontier projects. The MOU will also enable both parties to mutually benefit through competency and capability development in the advanced areas.
With the booming revolution in the telecommunication technologies, the cooperation, interaction and creative activities among the telecom operators, vendors and consumers, have been obviously pushing the development trend of the global telecom industry. Both TM and FiberHome believes that the innovation of technologies is the key for this sustainable and rapid development, and hope to fully utilize the strength of both parties for this development, and lead the upgrade of capability of Malaysian telecom market by the linkage of R&D, production and markets.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr Gopi Kurup shared, “This collaboration with FiberHome is testament to TM’s commitment towards research investment and our achievements spanning more than a decade. The signing of this MOU with a China-based telecommunications company, is indeed a significant step towards taking Malaysian research capability and contribution to the global landscape. We are looking forward to embark on this exciting journey with FiberHome to contribute and further enhance the local and global telecommunication R&D.”

The innovative solutions provided by TMR&D will also strengthen its plans to penetrate foreign markets and it currently has a number of ready products and tools developed for this purpose.
