HP MagCloud announced a web-based viewer that enables publishers to bring stunning versions of their publications to life in any modern web browser on both desktop and mobile computers.
Available now, the web viewer creates an immersive experience, bringing the same compelling content customers have come to expect in HP MagCloud’s print publications to an easy-to-navigate digital format with no download required.
Readers can use the web viewer to explore, buy and read thousands of publications online through HP MagCloud. It is the first self-publishing service to offer content owners the choice to distribute a single file as a free or paid digital publication via both iPad app and web viewer, in addition to a professional-quality print option.
“With the evolving consumption of content, publishers are constantly looking for ways to improve reader experience and reach their audience in new ways,” said Andrew Bolwell, chief MagClouder, HP. “With the unveiling of our web viewer, MagCloud is taking digital publishing to the next level, providing publishers with a seamless experience in which they can distribute their content in print and digital, mobile or desktop, and paid or free.”
Offering an easy and intuitive reading experience, the HP MagCloud web viewer allows readers to page forward and back, rotate, zoom in and out, and enter full-screen mode. Users also can view pages individually or as a spread, and can easily navigate throughout the publication with thumbnail and all-pages views. Additionally, users can buy a printed copy or download a PDF version for viewing later.
The web viewer supports all HP MagCloud publications, regardless of format, on any desktop or notebook computer running a modern web browser.
The web viewer technology also offers hyperlink support, benefitting publishers by linking directly to advertisers’ web pages, information about the author, more detail on a product or topic, or the ability to email the editor with questions. HP MagCloud also will provide publishers with campaign reporting metrics, including the number of readers, page views and shares. Further, users can promote their favorite publications by launching the web viewer directly from their own personal or company websites or by sharing publications they like with friends and colleagues via email or social media.
How HP MagCloud works
Invented by HP Labs, the company’s central research arm, HP MagCloud is a web service that empowers users to self-publish and distribute content—for business or personal use—as a professional-quality print publication or digitally for mobile and online viewing.
With HP MagCloud, users can publish a portfolio, newsletter, catalog, branded magazine and more with just a few clicks of the mouse, and without a minimum order or cost barrier.
HP MagCloud can take a customer’s content from PDF to delivered printed publication in just three days. All content is printed to order by print service providers using HP Indigo technology, delivering professional print quality with no waste or overruns, while reducing the impact on the environment. The same content uploaded for printing also can be made available for resale in the HP MagCloud storefront for viewing in the MagCloud web viewer, the HP MagCloud iPad app or as a downloadable PDF on a computer or other mobile device.
