IDC’s recent Asia Pacific C-Suite barometer 2015 reveals that the need to simplify IT infrastructure ranks among the top three priorities for organisations across countries in Asia Pacific. The other two are delivering innovation and building better management tools.
Nutanix’s ASEAN Managing Director Lim Pun Kok said, “As businesses become data driven to survive in the new economy, they will seek more data sources, collect more data, and look to analyse and store this data. For many such companies, the infrastructure is an essential part of an on-demand OPEX-driven cloud for internal and external consumption.
“Both traditional and newer use cases, especially highly scalable workloads, will require non-traditional approaches to infrastructure and hyperconverged storage solutions fit that profile very well.”
Trends
According to IDC, globally converged infrastructure will account for 12.8 percent of total storage, server, networking and software spending by 2016, up from 3.9 percent in 2012. Because of key drivers like high adoption of cloud, more bandwidth utilisations in the data centre, high operating costs and high adoption of virtualisation, spending on converged infrastructure is expected to hit USD17.8 billion in 2016.
Lim observed, “Converged infrastructure solutions are being deployed by SMBs and large enterprises as an alternative to building an expensive data centre. Organisations have already made significant investments in converged infrastructure and those investments are going to increase in future.”
He also pointed out early adopters as being the IT, telecoms, and banking and financial services industry.
Lim opined that the converged infrastructure industry is now in position to provide economic, technical and business benefits over siloed servers, storage and networking resources and added, “We are bullish about the converged infrastructure market in Malaysia. Going forward in the year 2015, we see a lot more enterprises featuring converged solution at the top of their IT procurement decisions.”
Priorities to simplify IT, innovate and build better management tools, will also push IT leaders in ASEAN region to re-look at how IT infrastructure is managed and how applications are deployed and supported, and consider converged architecture to drive transformation for a mobile-intensive, data-driven, competitive business environment.
