Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (“Hitachi Sunway”) today unveiled its latest 5,000 sq. ft data centre facility located at The Pinnacle Sunway. The opening of this third data centre signifies yet another milestone for Hitachi Sunway in its bid to become a major data centre player in the South East Asia region.
Cheah Kok Hoong, Group CEO and Director of Hitachi Sunway says, “Our investment in data centres as a fundamental infrastructure and ICT architecture, support Hitachi Sunway’ Cloud strategy. The new Pinnacle Sunway is well-equipped to deliver a complete range of data centre managed services to handle the demands of the Sunway Group, as well as local enterprises that prefer their data to be residing closer to them.”
Currently, more than half of the total Pinnacle Sunway data center capacity has already been reserved or booked by clients. Cheah said that demand remains strong and the company is confident the data centre’s full capacity will be fulfilled within 2016.
One of the key managed services offered at this new facility is the Recovery-as-a-Service (RaaS) solution which leverages on the real-time replication technology of Double-Take software by Vision Solutions. It is also the first of its kind in Malaysia using a subscription model and is designed for companies in ASEAN looking for full-scale and reliable protection without committing upfront capital investment and resources.
“Our partnership with Vision Solution allows Hitachi Sunway to offer one of the most complete disaster recovery solutions in the market. This is further supported by a strong Vision Solutions team with proven expertise and a good track record of 25 years. In addition, Double-Take is hardware, hypervisor and plaformform independent, therefore enterprises cans protect data, applications, and servers regardless of the origin, be it physical, virtual, cloud or heterogeneous environment. It provides disaster recovery on a subscription basis, addressing concerns on high upfront cost and infrastructure resources,” explains Cheah.
Many organizations try to handle their disaster recovery solutions in-house, however eventually face the challenge of a lack in flexibility and raising costs. The reality is that disaster recovery implementation across diverse platforms can be difficult, costly and complicated.
Richard Tee, Director of Sales (Asia Pacific & Japan) of Vision Solutions said, “Now more than ever, 24/7 system stability, continuity and online access are critical. Businesses can’t afford data loss or server downtime as even a short-term outage could trigger significant data and losses which in turn impact the financial health.
“Despite this, a many organizations in Malaysia still postpone or ignore disaster recovery planning because the solutions still appear to be overwhelming or expensive. With our metered usage option, Hitachi Sunway now can utilize Double-Take to provide disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS) consistently to their customers with clear reporting and license management features to achieve stringent service level agreements (SLA) and RPO/RTO goals at an affordable price.”
Hitachi Sunway’ business focus on the data centre market is aligned with the government’s drive to position Malaysia as a world class data hub in the region. The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) recently announced it is targeting a growth of 15% to RM915mil by end of 2015 for the data centre industry in Malaysia. Overall, the industry recorded RM795mil in revenue for 2014, a 26% growth from RM630mil in 2013.
