From building vegetable gardens using repurposed wooden pallets to rebuilding homes for flood survivors in Manek Urai, Kelantan, the volunteers go all out year after year to make their community a better place to live, work, and play in. Recently, these volunteers were recognized at the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program (IIMGP) payout ceremony for 2014 where Intel Malaysia announced a contribution of US$180,940 (RM687,577.70), equivalent to 36,188 hours volunteered, to be paid out to 35 schools and non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Penang and Kulim.
“Congratulations to all our employees that have contributed their time, energy and effort in making last year’s IIMGP a great success, we truly appreciate it! We’d also like to thank and congratulate all the schools and NGOs who received the grant from Intel Foundation. We hope our donations will be of great help and benefit to your organizations,” said Lee Koh Wing, Corporate Services Director, Intel Malaysia at the ceremony which was officiated by the Penang State Social Welfare Department.
The Intel Involved Matching Grant Program supports employees’ giving their time and talent to qualified non profits and non-governmental organizations, in addition to schools with the Intel Foundation matching a donation of US$5 per hour volunteered.
At the payout cermony, Intel also recognized the contributions of Liew Yew Feung as 2014’s top volunteer; contributing over 733 hours to coordinate such CSR projects like term break Intel® Easy Steps digital literacy camps for school children as well as monthly Farm2Fork excursions, setting up vegetable gardens in schools.
Since the launch of IIMGP in 2006, Intel Foundation has disbursed nearly US$2,000,000 in funds to its beneficiaries for various projects and this amounts to over 533,000 in volunteer hours by Intel employees in Malaysia.
