NTT Ltd., a leading global technology services company, today announced the launch of its fifth data center in Malaysia. Located within NTT Cyberjaya Campus, the new data center known as Cyberjaya 5 (CBJ5) with 107,000 square feet is designed to meet the requirements of hyperscalers and high-end enterprises. It also aims to support the growing digital economy in Malaysia.
As of July 2020, Malaysia’s digital economy is worth over RM270 billion and this equates to roughly 18% of Malaysia’s GDP. Without a doubt, the COVID-19 crisis and the resulting lockdown has spurred this growth. As the pandemic accelerated the digitalization of businesses in Malaysia, economic activities have increasingly moved online during this period. Digital economy will be the key driver of the country’s economic growth.
“The demand for data storage and managed hosting services is expected to grow exponentially across Malaysia. This fifth data center will meet the expanding needs of organizations to reach their digital business objectives, in particular the FSI sector, as our data center complies with the Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) guideline set by Bank Negara Malaysia.” said Henrick Choo, CEO, NTT Ltd. in Malaysia.
The data center footprint expansion in Malaysia is part of the ongoing growth strategy by NTT’s Global Data Centers division, which operates the third-largest data center platform in the world across 20 countries and regions. Malaysia is one of the prime data center markets in the region due to the abundant availability of resources and favorable government policies concerning data center infrastructure.
