Red Hat’s Forum themed around “Build Your Own Hybrid Cloud Today” is currently making its rounds of 17 cities in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and more. With speakers from Red Hat, partners and customers coming together to share their experiences when adopting Red Hat-powered hybrid cloud solutions, general manager of Red Hat ASEAN, Damien Wong believes that the open source organisation is one of the few companies that is helping to define a new era of computing.

He said, “We are helping to define a new era of computing and enabling it through our technology and value proposition. We are aware that every day we become a little more connected to one another and the rest of the world, and those who take advantage of these connections and work together will be the most successful.”
The open source nature of the global IT solutions vendor also has Wong adding that Red Hat connects their customers to a global network of enterprises, partners and communities, which inadvertently “…provides an ecosystem to create better technologies and achieve greater innovation than any of us could have created alone.”
Red Hat Forums is the vendor’s flagship event and Red Hat optimistically foresees more organisations adopting open source solutions in emerging technologies such as cloud computing. Wong explained, “In fact, open source is at the foundation of cloud today. Eighty-percent of the world’s public cloud are powered by Linux and open source technology.” Red Hat itself powers 75% of the world’s enterprise Linux applications.”
We know what it takes to deliver mission critical applications with enterprise-class governance and reliability. This experience gives us unique insight into what works and more importantly what doesn’t work when building clouds for enterprise and public sectors alike.”
True to an open philosophy, an open cloud isn’t ripping and replacing, but rather managing existing infrastructures, no matter how diverse they are, by bringing them together under the same cloud architecture. “So instead of creating a new cloud silo or worse, start their IT over from scratch, an open cloud extends its benefits to the entire IT infrastructure, delivering greater efficiency and agility and putting the organisations in control of their technology roadmap and ultimately, the future of their IT.”
An organisation’s IT should be built out according to its choice of physical resources, technologies, service providers, and not be limited and locked in by software that is proprietary. “Red Hat products are open at every layer and customers are given the choice to use all or a combination of our products to build their open hybrid cloud.” Wong gave the example of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation Hypervisor (KVM), “(These) give many strong advantages in a cloud environment – especially in the areas of dealing with multi-tenancy, cloud scalability, flexibility, security and performance.”
IT solution vendors can’t stress enough how important cloud building is at this point of time in the industry. “Choosing how to build a cloud is the most strategic decision IT leaders will make this decade and done right, a cloud can deliver strategic advantages to the business by redirecting resources from lights-on to innovation.”
