Spellcheck Generation

I was chatting with a neighbour in the late 1980s and he said that he tried not to use electronic calculators because they tend to destroy our abilities in mental arithmetic and will eventually lead to a weakening of our mental capacities over time, as we use our brain less and less.

Well now we have thing called the spellchecker which relieves us from having to remember the correct spelling of words and too lazy to look it up in a dictionary, if we are unsure.

 Now it‘s becoming increasingly apparent that technological “progress” is resulting in human regress.

By the way, the spellchecker on my e-mail client doesn’t recognise the word “spellchecker,” so I guess I’ll have to write it as “spell-checker,” to please the spellchecker.

My lecturer, Dr. Nagy told us in university that we should regard the computer as a servo (slave) and not become a slave to the computer.

Unfortunately, that’s what most of us have become – i.e slaves to the computer, iPad, tablet, smartphone, etc., those some pundits today will say that that’s so “old school.”
