Dr. Sean Black from Spirit AeroSystems presented about how his organisation leveraged digital twin environments, for example to manufacture an aircraft’s – the A320- spoiler.
He shared in this type of environment (that is high-rate), a lot of automation would be used, there would be some search and support, as well as “protection for 1000 spoilers per month.”
He described the whole set up as a minimum assembly with a fully digital workflow.
Another use case for the solution he showed was when Spirit wanted to “repatriate a product back to the United Kingdom”, from Sepang in Malaysia after 15 years in this region.
“Through redesign of product, through optimising the production environment via a digital twin, we were able to effectively repatriate the product to the UK.”
