Tencent, one of the world’s leading internet and technology companies, has launched its new Malaysia office at Menara 1 Sentrum, underscoring its long-term commitment to Malaysia’s fast-growing digital economy. The new office will serve as a strategic international base for Tencent’s global tech and digital innovation functions.
Minister of Digital YB Gobind Singh Deo, who graced the event, welcomed Tencent’s expansion and noted Malaysia’s strong digital infrastructure, supportive policies, and competitive talent pool.
Key highlights:
- Tencent Malaysia doubled its workforce in 2025, with more than 90% of its team made up of highly skilled Malaysian professionals across development operations, data analysis, content compliance, and customer experience.
- The new office accommodates up to 500 staff and centralises Tencent’s Global Tech, Digital Innovation, and Customer Experience teams, reinforcing Malaysia as a key international hub.
- Tencent Cloud signed an MOU with Opensys Technologies and Boost to deepen ecosystem collaboration and deploy PalmAI, positioning Malaysia as a testing ground for next-generation digital innovation.
- In digital payments, with Weixin Pay now integrated into PayNet’s DuitNow QR, transactions from Chinese visitors tripled during Golden Week, benefiting sectors such as transport and tourism.
- In esports, Malaysia is emerging as a regional player:
- Kuala Lumpur recently hosted the inaugural Honor of Kings Nation Clash 2025, where Team Malaysia emerged Southeast Asian champions.
- Tencent, through Level Infinite, has also partnered with Claz’room College to support local gaming talent development.
