NetApp gears up for more growth after impressive 2013 results

By Cat Yong

During a local business update with the media, newly minted District Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Low Kai Chin, shared IDC research that named NetApp as leading storage vendor in terms of public cloud capacity, globally.

Besides this, Malaysia also recorded an impressive 8 percent growth in contribution to the ASEAN business from last year, officially making this its best performance to date, for Malaysia.  This is thanks to new customer acquisition, which when totalled up, accounts for 25 percent of NetApp’s business in Malaysia.

Low shared that the top verticals for NetApp in Malaysia include manufacturing, the oil and gas industry as well as government segment.

With this performance, Malaysia’s contribution to NetApp’s ASEAN business becomes a significant 20 percent.

Low said, “One of the main factors for this is because what NetApp launches, is developed by NetApp. Because we have our own innovations, and one single architecture that can scale up and out, according to business need.

He shared his mantra that, “Simple is reliable.”

Growth momentum

NetApp boasts over 175 public cloud providers around the world as their partners, but also do see the value of the hybrid cloud solution and seamless connectivity among the different type of cloud delivery models – private, service provider and hyperscale cloud providers.

“There is a need for seamless cloud services, but hybrid data centres are difficult because performance, availability, security, access, governance and protection have to be ensured,” pointed out Low.

No doubt, the challenges to cloud computing deployment are steadily mounting, as business needs become more complex and budgets decrease, but Low opined that more and more Malaysian IT enterprises have to see how to leverage the cloud.

Low also shared that there are pockets of successful cloud deployments in Malaysia, for example a large install base of SAP seats or subscribers in Cyberjaya, that is being provided by a NetApp cloud partner.
