Oracle’s top dog in ASEAN and SAGE (South Asia Growth Economies) is stepping down after several illustrious years with the company, to join a country-level MD position with Microsoft Malaysia.
The irony of former EMC-er, former HP-er and now former Oracle-er, K.Raman’s departure hits home hard when on the very day of the official announcement, Oracle released a statement that it would beef up its sales presence in APAC, by at least 1,000 new employees.
No doubt, Raman leaving Oracle to go to Microsoft, is a very bitter pill to swallow.
Oracle currently wins out over Microsoft when it comes to the higher-end solutions space, because of its ‘extreme’ performance machines. The lower-end space is a different story as Microsoft is actually slowly creeping up from behind, as a very viable alternative to Oracle.
How will businesses view Microsoft now that Oracle’s ‘poster boy’ for high-performance engineered systems, has joined the Microsoft camp?
No doubt, some of that K.Raman magic would be rubbing off onto his sales teams, headed up by HP and SAP veterans, Thiyagu Letchuman and Nik Ariff Nik Omar, respectively. These three industry stalwarts chalk up a total of nearly 100 years’ experience.
What is going to matter in the contest for the high-end cloud solutions market?
Quality or quantity?
IT BYTES BACK! Says: You win some, you lose some. The thing is, will 1000 new sales people be enough to fill the gap Raman left behind?
