Google Malaysia launched its Mobile Leadership Program (MLP), an initiative to supercharge Malaysia’s businesses on mobile by helping agency and business professionals become better equipped to engage with Malaysians who are spending more time on their portable screens.
The MLP aims to help marketers build a stronger presence for their business on mobile. It covers research and insights, Google’s mobile solutions and measurement tools, and assists marketers nationwide to improve their mobile-related skill sets and knowledge.
The programme comes at a time when Google’s recently-commissioned Mobile Search Moments on Malaysia revealed that more than half (52%) of Malaysians turn to smartphones instead of PCs/laptops as the main device for their search needs. Among other figures, the study revealed that:
●4 out of 5 (80%) mobile searches occur at home or work, 1 out of 5 (22%) happens on-the-go and 1 in 10 (8%) in-store or at a restaurant.
●9 out of 10 (91%) mobile searches lead to further action e.g. looking for more info, visiting a store or website or making an outright purchase of a product or service.
●1 in 2 (50%) mobile searches are done to help with product or services-decision making.
●1 out of 4 (26%) consumers who click on an ad are more likely to visit a store or site and 2x as likely to buy something.
“Today’s battle for customers is won in ‘micro moments’ – the spontaneous moments of decision-making and preference-shaping that dictate outcomes throughout the entire consumer journey, which is happening with consumers on mobile,” said Google Malaysia’s managing director Sajith Sivanandan.
“This transformative role of mobile in digital marketing has opened up exciting new opportunities for businesses to reach and engage with consumers, and our Mobile Leadership Program aims to help them discover and grow their proficiency in mobile advertising.”
He added that with the MLP Google is committed to helping marketers grow their mobile skillsets by providing them a choice of resources to tailor mobile solutions and build marketing campaigns — all with today’s ‘mobile first’ consumers in mind.
In line with the launch, Google Malaysia will hold MLP bootcamps at their office. These camps will focus on market insights on the state of mobile in Malaysia today, the various offerings in the market, best practices on building effective mobile sites and apps, and principles on creating an optimised mobile experience for users.
