Beyond 14 October 2025: Why upgrading to Windows 11—and modern hardware—is essential

Is your organisation one of many that is preparing for the Windows 10 end-of-support date? The general consensus from experts is that once support for Windows 10 ends on 14th October, 2025, your PC will likely continue to work, but it will be at greater risk from security vulnerabilities.
Computers in your organisation would maintain some level of security if you decide to pay for extended security updates, but a PC upgrade to Windows 11 will also offer this and a lot more. There are other ways to keep your Windows 10 PC alive, but how sustainable are these methods?

Modernising devices against modern threats
As of February 2024, based on HP’s internal analysis of business PCs with preinstalled encryption, authentication, malware protection, BIOS-level protection and successful MIL-STD testing, the finding is that no other in-class PC implements a quantum-resistant cryptographic scheme to protect the integrity of UEFI BIOS firmware, like HP has.
This is possible thanks to an upgraded Endpoint Security Controller (ESC) that HP has built into selected PCs.

Ian Pratt, Global Head of Security for Personal Systems at HP Inc., explained in a HP blog, “By embedding protection against quantum computer hacks at the chip level, HP is today setting a new standard in hardware and firmware security with our 5th generation ESC chip. By isolating the chip from the processor and OS, the ESC provides a hardware platform that reduces the risk of data breaches and improves productivity by preventing downtime.”
As one of three steps, he recommended for organisations to talk to their tech providers about their plans to migrate quantum resistant protections across their IT infrastructure estate.

In a nutshell, this technology provides a critical foundation for long-term device security, addressing threats that could emerge years from now. Users with compatible laptops gain resilience against these sophisticated attacks, although broader data protection requires complementary software-level updates.
Higher hardware requirements
HP’s machines are optimised for the latest operating system, Windows 11. And it is not just to ensure that your computer PC security is stronger, but to enable productivity and seamless collaboration.
On top of that, there is a shiny new technology in town called Artificial Intelligence that employees are raring to take advantage of and elevate their productivity to the next level. Will AI fix work? Seventy-percent of employees would delegate as much work as possible to AI to lessen their workloads, a survey discovered.
The Ponemon Institute had shared in an annual study that 70-percent of successful breaches start at an endpoint, for example PCs. From this perspective, modern AI PCs have an advantage over classical PCs, because they are equipped with high-end security and privacy features without which your machine could be unnecessarily exposed.
In the event, you are considering an OS upgrade, here is what we recommend:
Back up your data before upgrading. This ensures you can recover your files if anything goes wrong.
Consider the end-of-support deadline. After October 2025, staying on Windows 10 will require paying for security updates or accepting increased risk.
Take advantage of new features. Windows 11 offers improved security, performance, and productivity tools compared to Windows 10.
You may think that your employees can do without the shiny new bells and whistles that come with Windows 11, in which case, there are the costs and security risks of not future-proofing your organisation’s productivity, which you may want to consider.
