BAE Systems, a UK-based global defence, aerospace and security company, is showcasing a Cyber Zone at the biennial Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace 2015 (LIMA ‘15) this year, that is focused on capabilities and knowledge to protect against national-scale cyber threats to Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
This aligns with the importance of cyber issues during UK and Malaysia’s bilateral discussions, according to BAE Systems Applied Intelligence Director in Asia, Mark Womble.
He said, “Just as some of our capabilities demonstrated at LIMA help protect the physical world, our cyber security capability helps protect the virtual, delivering solutions which help clients to protect and enhance their critical assets in the connected world.”
For example, BAE System’s Intelligent Protection solutions combine large-scale data exploitation, ‘intelligence-grade’ security and complex services and solutions integration for national infrastructure and capabilities in national security and defense, energy & utilities as well as telecommunications.
Also central to their showcase at LIMA ’15, is BAE Systems’ focus on strengthening industrial relationships in Malaysia, such as with CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Womble said, “Moreover, BAE Systems’ commitment to help develop Malaysia into a leading cyber champion is emphasised by the presence of local staff from our Global Delivery Centre in Kuala Lumpur.”
The big data highlight at LIMA ’15
Big data is at the heart of BAE’s Applied Intelligence capability, from analysing unstructured data to detecting fraud and money laundering, to providing enterprises with the means to create competitive advantages for themselves.
Womble observed that the Internet of Things (IoT) trend sees an increasingly diverse range of devices connected to the Internet, and predictions suggest that by 2020, over 50 billion devices will be producing and consuming data and information whilst connected to each other and additional systems.
“We enable organisations to be more agile, increase trust and operate more confidently, whilst helping to strengthen national security and resilience, for a safer world. We also allow enterprises to manage their business risks, optimise their operations and comply with regulatory obligation.”
BAE Systems’ capability is underpinned by their 30 year heritage with Malaysia and the rest of ASEAN through the delivery of strategic defence and security programmes, Womble also said.
Leading enterprises, across financial services, telecoms, energy and utilities, use BAE Systems’ solutions to protect and enhance their physical infrastructure, mission-critical systems, valuable intellectual property, corporate information, reputation and customer relationships, competitive advantage and financial success.
