Microsoft Gets Its Biggest Cloud Computing Client

Microsoft will provide All India Council For Technical Education with its Live@edu communication and collaboration software to more than 7 million students and half a million teachers.

The service, which Microsoft is providing for free as part of its education initiative, includes email, Office Web applications, instant messaging and storage.

Microsoft usually comes late into the game for anything per se. However, it usually will triumph with great results.

For instance, Microsoft was late into the game for Internet browser in which the Internet Explorer was inferior to Netscape during the early stage, but it persevered and now is still the top 3 in terms of market share, trailing behind Chrome and Firefox.

Same story for cloud computing, in which things took drastic change when Microsoft aggressively launched Windows Azure on Jan 2011. During that time, it was announced that Microsoft will invest 70% of its resources on development related to cloud computing. That was more than 1 year ago, followed by launching of web based MS Office 365 and other products, Microsoft is not ignoring the possibility that the PC industry is going to get smaller and become more insignificant.

Google who had been the main steward and evangelist of cloud computing before Microsoft did, is progressing steadily in this area.
