Unifi Surpasses 300,000 Subscribers’ Mark

Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s (TM) High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, UniFi, proves to be on the right track when it celebrates its 2nd birthday with its customer base growing rapidly, surpassing the 300,000 mark. This is yet another milestone in the roll-out of the national HSBB project since its launch on 24 March 2010.

UniFi is currently available at 79 exchange areas covering more than 1.179 million premises. The areas include 62 areas in Klang Valley, 3 in Penang, 2 in Kedah, 9 in Johor, 1 in Melaka, 1 in Negeri Sembilan, and 1 in Perak.

Commenting on the anniversary, Imri Mokhtar, Executive Vice President, Consumer, TM said, “This year marks the second birthday of UniFi and we are excited that the service has reached more than 300,000 customers nationwide. The coverage area for UniFi is steadily expanding and this is in line with TM’s position as Malaysia’s No. 1 broadband provider and leading New Generations Communications provider. We are definitely very happy with this achievement and indeed very grateful to our customers for their continued trust in us in delivering an enhanced and integrated digital lifestyle to their homes.”

“UniFi has been receiving an unexpectedly overwhelming response and I’m pleased to share that the service is now enjoying a take up rate of more than 20 per cent of the premises passed, surpassing our initial estimates and expectations of 8 to 10 per cent take up rate of premises passed. This latest development augurs well for TM and we expect UniFi’s take up will continue to increase to 50% of premises passed in the next three (3) to five (5) years. We also aim to hit the 400,000 customer base mark for UniFi service by year end. HSBB has not only made its stamp domestically, but globally as well. As announced by Frank Jaffer, the president of Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council Asia Pacific at the FTTH Council Asia Pacific Conference held end of last year, the project has elevated Malaysia to emerge as the highest in terms of number of high speed broadband subscribers in South East Asia and one of the highest speeds of roll-outs globally. More importantly, Malaysia is also listed in the top 10 in ranking within the Asia Pacific region in terms of HSBB subscribers. This is made possible with the high demand Malaysians have for UniFi,” added Imri.

“Therefore, as an appreciation from TM to you and our way to say ‘thank you’ to our valued customers for making us the No. 1 broadband provider in Malaysia, we have lined up various special promotions in conjunction with this celebration. One of the promos is the broadband upgrading promotion called ‘Superspeed Me™’ which allows all existing UniFi and Streamyx customers to upgrade their current broadband package to a higher Internet speed of their choice while enjoying the faster speed at the rate of their current package for three (3) months,” Imri shared.
