TM Announced Dividend Payout of RM701.2 million

TM announced the distribution of a total dividend payout of RM701.2 million, or 19.6 sen net dividend per share to shareholders, in line with its dividend commitment of RM700 million or up to 90% of normalised PATAMI.

Apart from that TM also announced it will be carrying out a capital repayment of 30 sen per share by way of capital reduction amounting to RM1,073.2 million to its shareholders. This move will enable immediate value enhancement and improvement to the shareholders’ long term rates of return.

As at 31 December 2011, TM’s 12-month Total Return to Shareholders (TRS) stood at 60.1%, factoring in its dividend and capital distribution payments and price appreciation over that period. This makes TM leads over local peers in this aspect.

“Our TRS for the period since our demerger in 2008 up to 31 December 2011 was 153.91%,” Datuk Dr. Halim (Chairman, TM) further said.

The payout of the final dividend will be made in June 2012 and the capital repayment is expected to be made in the 3rd quarter of 2012.

UNIFI Progress Update

TM remains committed to its obligations under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Agreement with the Government. UniFi continued to perform above our expectations in 2011. TM successfully exceeded the 1.1 million premises passes coverage. As at 31 December 2011, TM has rolled out to 1.16 million premises covering 78 exchanges. In terms of take up, TM activated 236,501 customers.

The coverage area for UniFi is steadily expanding and this is in line with TM’s position as Malaysia’s No. 1 broadband provider and leading New Generations Communications provider. To date, TM has expanded the service to more than 1,198,000 premises passed covering 81 exchange areas. Its HyppTV service which is available as part of UniFi’s triple play service now offers 88 channels with 12 High Definition (HD) channels consisting of 19 free channels, 34 premium channels, 17 Video-On-Demand (VOD) genres and 18 interactive channels. As at yesterday, TM has activated more than 347,000 customers.

While the Company is on track to meeting the HSBB project target of 1.3 million premises passed covering 98 exchange areas by end 2012, due attention will be given to ensure the rollout of UniFi is effectively managed from the aspects of cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction. UniFi sales are steadily increasing as service installation capabilities being progressively ramped up.

In line with TM’s continued commitment to provide fair and equitable opportunities for other service providers, TM has signed with additional two (2) access seekers in 2011 to provide HSBB (Access) service on a wholesale arrangement. TM also signed HSBB services agreement with 11 property developers to deploy HSBB network infrastructure and services to new housing development areas.

Year 2012 marks the 25th of TM’s corporatisation. Moving forward, Datuk Dr. Halim highlighted a few priorities.

1.) To continue the momentum as the main steward of Malaysia’s broadband provider, maintaining its excellency and upholding its integrity.

2.) To embrace customer service to the next level by declaring 2012 as Year of Customer Experience.

3.) Enterprise ICT and BPO services via VADS Berhad to continue for achieving higher growth.

4.) Supporting Malaysia as the Regional Data Centre Hub by 2015.

5.) Becoming the regional IP hub for global community.
