He expressed full confidence in the new leadership team and is excited about the prospects of the GBS sector going forward.

“OM started from humble beginnings and was PIKOM’s first chapter. We have certainly come a long way from 2006. Today, OM is a key opinion leader for the GBS sector which has bright prospects going forward into 2016. I look forward to continue working with the team in my new role as Chairman of the ASOCIO ASEAN Economic Community Taskforce (AADT),” shared Wong.

With a predicted compounded annual growth rate of 10%-15% for the local industry, prospects for GBS are indeed looking up. Incoming Chairman Cheah believes that the time is right for the industry to capitalise on the next phase of growth as APAC emerges into prominence on the GBS radar.

“I am looking forward to my new role as there plenty of exciting developments ahead. The industry has good growth prospects but is also fraught with challenges. There is an acute need for talent and funding is also an issue. We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders, especially the government to continue developing the GBS eco-system in Malaysia,” shared Cheah.

Cheah also thanked past Chairman David Wong for his many years of dedication and service in advancing the GBS agenda both locally and beyond. “David has done a fantastic job of taking OM from a nascent group to becoming a leading voice of the industry. I thank him for his immense contributions and dedication and also thank the past leadership teams for a job well done,” said Cheah.

Created as a special interest group under PIKOM in 2006, OM was launched by then Prime Minister Dato Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and has grown from strength to strength to become a key pillar and of the local and regional GBS sector. Among key areas that the new Committee will look into are continued industry engagements and collaborations with educational institutions as well dialogues with the government in line with the Government’s Entry Point Project 2 (EPP2).

Outsourcing Malaysia is supported by a dedicated Secretariat team headed by Director, Justin J Anthony whose key role is to manage and oversee the execution of strategies, initiatives and activities championed by Outsourcing Malaysia as well as day-to-day operations of the Chapter.
